Honey Soy Sauce Glazed Chicken Wings

Chicken wings glazed with the Japanese-style sweet and savory sauce. A simple recipe to enjoy with family and friends. There is no need to marinade as we will use the perfect Japanese seasonings and make sure all of that umami is absorbed well in the chicken!

Japanese Honey Soy Sauce Glazed Chicken Wings

Looking for new ways to spice up your chicken wings? Try cooking it with Japanese style! You can also add your own twist by adding chili powder to make it spicier, or you can stick with the sweet and savory classic. This recipe can use koikuci, saishikomi, or tamari soy sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 pieces Chicken Wings
  • 0.25 tbsp Salt
  • 0.25 tbsp Pepper
  • 4 tbsp Potato Starch
  • Oil (for frying)
  • 4 tbsp Japanese soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Sake
  • 2 tbsp Mirin
  • 2 tbsp Pure Honey
  • 1 cm Ginger (grated)
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Turn on the stove and heat the oil until about 150-160˚C.
  • Season the chicken with salt and pepper and dredge lightly with potato starch until all surface is covered. Fry the chicken wings until crispy and golden brown. Set aside after done.
  • Prepare the glaze sauce by mixing soy sauce, cooking sake, mirin, honey, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
  • Heat the frying pan. Toss the fried chicken wings and the glaze mix, make sure the wings are coated with the glaze. Stir until the sauce simmers and thicken.
  • Chicken wings are ready to be served. Finish with toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

The best tip to use to make the perfect, shimmering glaze sauce is to use thick soy sauce (Koikuchi Shoyu), Hon Mirin, and Pure Honey with nice consistency. If you use thin soy sauce, the glaze color will fade. Furthermore, if you use normal sugar, the glaze might not as mouthwatering when using Hon Mirin and Pure Honey.
