How To Brew Sencha Green Tea

Sencha green tea is definitely a suitable everyday tea when you are keen on refreshing tea with well-balanced umami & astringency. To bring out sencha’s taste to its full potential, it is best to drink it warm or hot.

This recipe will show you how we usually steep our sencha green tea.

Be mindful that if you prefer a stronger tea taste, let’s put more sencha loose leaf/tea bag in your portion. Different tea brands can also affect the taste, so feel free to adjust the tea leaves when making your own steeped sencha green tea at home!

How to Brew Sencha Loose Leaf Hot Tea

The traditional way to drink sencha green tea is to drink it as a hot beverage. In this recipe, we will be using Organic Sencha Loose Leaf type.
In order to serve the possible best tea, let’s focus on the right temperature before actually steeping the sencha.

  • Kyusu (teapot)

  • Add 2-3g of Sencha Green Tea into a teapot.
  • Pour 60ml hot water (80℃ or 176°F).
  • Let it sit until fully steeped for 1 minute. Feel free to steep more to get stronger tea taste.
  • Pour into a teacup and enjoy the great taste!

Notes

The first brew has the natural aroma and sweetness from sencha green tea. If you decide to make the second or third brew, steep the tea with 5-10 degrees higher water temperature and shorten the steeping time. The high-quality sencha green tea can be used for three infusions.
Furthermore, to make Sencha Iced tea, allow the steeped tea to cool at room temperature for one hour. Then refrigerate it for 3-4 hours, or add ice blocks in your preference.
